Designer and entrepreneur Alex Hsiao moderated a panel of creative trendsetters through a stimulating discussion on the world of design at the AddThis headquarters.
The Meetup topics ranged from current design trends to tools of the trade. The group discussed different processes, inspirations, and mobile techniques currently popular within the industry. The forum also touched on broader topics such as design management, the industry of design, and the future of design.
The free-flowing format allowed panelists to share their expertise and respond to questions from the audience. The event served as an enlightening experience for all attendees and inspired Demosphere’s team to apply what they learned in the workshop to the design of sports websites.

Earlier this month, members of the Demosphere Graphics Team traveled to New York City to take part in the three days of cutting edge, expert-led web design workshops.
In any fast-paced industry, especially if it’s online, staying ahead of the curve is critical. It is vital to invest in skills and stay up-to-date with current technologies. After attending the workshops, our team is ready to take what they’ve learned and apply it with new designs!
A new method of site development involves taking a closer look into human psychology. Users come to a site with a goal already in mind – websites aren’t able to succeed unless they quickly fulfill their expectations. Designers must be able to get into the mindset of their users in order to create a greater user experience.
For example, compare two ATM machines. The first machine allows you to get your cash out before removing your card. The second machine makes you remove your card in order to receive your cash.
Once you receive the cash from Machine 1 you have completed your process and can now leave, often accidentally leaving your card behind. Although only slightly altered, the second machine’s design has created a more enjoyable experience simply by observing the behavior and needs of its users.
Demosphere’s team keeps this approach in mind when designing sports websites – how can we help users complete their goal as quickly as possible?
Demosphere has provided website and registration solutions for over 10 years. For the past two years, Demosphere has sponsored the annual Administrator of the Year award which recognizes a leading administrator and offers a donation to further club operations for the coming year.
This year, New York West Youth Soccer Assn. honored Lou Vitello, Director of Coaching for Clarence Soccer Club, as its Administrator Of The Year.
For more than 17 years, Vitello has coached multiple teams, developed coaching materials for fellow coaches, increased the number of available fields, and solicited sponsorships for the club.
Vitello accepted his award recently with Demosphere staff Spenser Anne Edwards, Camille Cheatwood, and Kris Baker at the state association’s awards dinner.
Demosphere aims to help youth sports administrators be more efficient and there’s tons of positive work being done by administrators nationwide.
Through our partners at Illinois Youth Soccer Association (IYSA), Demosphere sponsored the Administrator Of The Year Award. In addition to the recognition, the winning administrator’s club received a grant to further the club’s objectives.
It was too difficult to decide this year, so IYSA recognized three great Administrators Of The Year (from left): Wayne Bernacki, Thunder Soccer Club; Jane Raede, Southern Illinois Soccer League; and Dave Dilger, Southwest Soccer Club.
Wayne Bernacki has been a part of Thunder Soccer Club since its inception and appropriately currently serves as President as it celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2013. His work in all aspects of the organization has been a driving force in the club’s long-running success.
Jane Raede’s overwhelming commitment to the game of soccer has been one of the keys in the success of Illinois Youth Soccer programs in the southern part of the state. In addition to her work with the competitive league, SISL, she also has been instrumental in the revival of ODP in southern Illinois and a new TOPSoccer program.
Dave Dilger has spent 15 working with Southwest Soccer Club, beginning as a volunteer coach for his daughter’s team. Since then, he has held just about every position with the organization including President, Vice President, Travel Coach, Director of Travel, & Recreational Coach. Dave is truly the organization’s “go-to” guy.
Congrats to the winners and keep up the great work!
